Dimapur: The project to transform Nagaland’s Dimapur railway station into a world-class facility is set to commence in the first week of March, an official confirmed on Wednesday.
The decision was made during a coordination meeting involving officials from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the Dimapur district administration, state transport authorities, and local civil societies, held at the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The redevelopment of the over-century-old railway station has faced delays, primarily due to land acquisition issues.
Dimapur, located in Nagaland, was selected for the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to upgrade the station to global standards.
Despite the allocation of Rs 283 crore from the Centre, progress had been hindered by these land-related challenges.
In a statement to reporters following the meeting, Nilmani Brahma, Chief Engineer (Construction) for NFR in Guwahati, assured that the contract for the station’s upgradation had already been awarded.
Construction will begin soon within the current financial year and is expected to be completed within three years.
Brahma also emphasized that the railway authorities are urging the public to refrain from constructing illegal structures on railway land, as it could obstruct the project’s progress.
He called for the support and cooperation of the local community, stressing that development is only possible with local backing.

Additionally, Brahma revealed that the project to double the railway track between Lumding and Furkating in Assam, passing through Dimapur, has also been approved.
Both the track-doubling work and the station redevelopment will be carried out concurrently.
Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Tinojongshi Chang highlighted that the meeting also addressed concerns about encroachment on railway land.
It was agreed that both the administration and civil societies would work together to resolve these issues to ensure the successful development of the world-class station.
