A 67-year-old tourist from the United Kingdom attending the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland passed away on Saturday night due to cardiac arrest, police confirmed on Sunday.
The tourist, who was at the festival venue at Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, complained of severe chest pain on Saturday evening.
He was immediately taken to a health camp set up at the site for initial medical attention.
Doctors at the camp referred him to a hospital, and he was subsequently rushed to a private facility in Kohima, approximately 12 kilometers away.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed later that night, officials said.
State authorities are working closely with the British High Commission to facilitate the repatriation of his body to the UK.
The Hornbill Festival, an annual celebration showcasing Nagaland’s vibrant cultural heritage, attracts thousands of visitors, including international tourists, each year.
