Kohima: Nagaland Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along on Monday claimed that tourist footfall in the state is one of the highest in India.
Temjen Imna Along said the tourist arrival in Nagaland is about 15 percent of the state’s total population, which he claimed is the highest in India.
Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of the 17th Bishu Mini Hornbill Tribal Festival, Imna Along said in comparison to the population, the arrival of tourists in Nagaland is highly encouraging.
Claiming that the annual Hornbill Festival is now known across the globe, the minister said state government has been promoting the tourism industry in a holistic manner.
The 24th edition of Hornbill Festival, which concluded on December 10, got more than 1,54,000 tourists, including over 2,000 foreign nationals, he said.
The last edition of the Hornbill Festival was a grand success with the participation by the US, Germany, and Colombia as partner countries.
Tourism in Nagaland has improved due to efforts of the Tourism, Art and Culture departments, Imna Along said.
The minister said the state’s tourism infrastructures are being developed so that tourists can come and enjoy their stay in the state.
“Our government is keen to promote Nagaland as a land of festivals,” he said, adding that discussions are going on to make the Hornbill Festival a 24/7 event.
