KOHIMA: In the heart of Kohima, three talented Naga youth are carving a niche for themselves in the art world with their exceptional sculpting skills.

Neivito Vitsu, Bode Swüro, and Longusie Nyuthe, collectively known as 3Atifs Naga, are making waves with their passion for art and expertise in sculpture.

Their artistic journey began over coffee, where the trio, bonded by their shared background in fine arts, decided to collaborate.

Reflecting on their origins, Vitsu, hailing from Viswema village, along with Swüro from Meluri and Nyuthe from Phek, relocated to Kohima last November.

Their debut came at the prestigious Hornbill Festival, where the Art and Culture department warmly welcomed them, providing a platform for their inaugural group exhibition.

Since then, 3Atifs Naga has been on a whirlwind of creative endeavours, tackling commissions, competing in art competitions, and attending workshops.

“This year has been quite hectic,” Vitsu tells a local daily, highlighting their participation and accolades at events such as the Northeast Youth Festival and National Youth Festival, including a notable exhibition stint in Madhya Pradesh.

Their artistic repertoire extends far beyond Nagaland, catering to a diverse clientele ranging from local patrons to international clients.

Their portfolio boasts a variety of works including traditional sculptures, intricate 2D and 3D art pieces, installations, and ventures into art documentation.

While they employ materials like cement and wood, their preferred medium remains fibre, known for its versatility and durability.

“For us, crafting a life-sized sculpture typically takes about a month, with one member focusing on painting while the others sculpt,” Vitsu explains.

Their adeptness at managing both their artistry and social media presence, particularly on Instagram, further amplifies their reach and impact.

As they continue to push artistic boundaries and garner acclaim, 3Atifs Naga exemplifies the spirit of innovation and dedication, enriching the cultural landscape of Nagaland and beyond.
