KOHIMA: In a show of solidarity with the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s (DCCI) call for an indefinite shutdown, petrol pumps in Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima are set to close starting Friday.
Several organisations in the three districts have decided to cooperate with the indefinite shutter-down as a protest against multiple taxation and alleged harassment faced by the business community from various Naga Political Groups.
The Petroleum Dealers’ Association of Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima (PDADNC), which has called upon all retail outlets to support DCCI’s resolution, expressed concern over these activities “occurring under the observation of the administration and police”.
Presto Therie, the General Secretary of PDADNC, said that the association has appealed to the government to intervene and prevent further complications.
Additionally, the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has announced a one-day shutdown on the 26 from 6 am to 6 pm, in solidarity with DCCI’s cause.
The KCCI commended DCCI for its bold stance in addressing the grievances of the business community.
The Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce & Trade Association (CCCTA) has also directed the closure of all shops within the Chümoukedima Town jurisdiction on Friday, supporting DCCI’s stand against unjust exploitation of the business community.
Several other organisations, including the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO), Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NDMA), Business Association of Darogapathar Village (BADV), and Joint Council Forum (JCF) of NST Colony, Churches Colony, and Middle Point, have also pledged unwavering solidarity with DCCI and vowed to support its cause.
Earlier on Wednesday, the DCCI had clarified that the indefinite shutdown applies solely to the business community, and all other establishments, including the free movement of vehicles, will remain open.
The DCCI decided to initiate an indefinite shutdown of petrol pumps after a three-hour closed-door meeting led by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dimapur on April 24.
The state Cabinet is scheduled to discuss the issue in a meeting on April 26.
