KOHIMA: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said that an opposition-less government is a “a positive sign of peace and unity”.
Gracing the third day of the ongoing Poanglüm Hornbill Festival in Tuensang town, Chief Minister Rio said that the people of the state must champion peace and unity and reiterated that when the Naga political issue is resolved, the state will usher in a new era of development.
“An opposition-less government in the state is a sign of peace and unity. Once the Naga political issue is settled, many developments will follow. With the coming of Christianity and education, Nagas have progressed a lot. We, the Nagas, have certain provisions within the Indian Constitution for protection of land and its resources and customary rights,” he was quoted as saying by the local press.
Known as the “Land of Festivals”, Chief Minister Rio encouraged the people to proudly exhibit the state’s rich culture, traditions, and local products.
He highlighted the success of the previous edition of the Hornbill Festival, adding that the 2023 edition attracted a record number of tourists.
During the occasion, Chief Minister Rio presented the Poanglüm Qui Qui Awards.
Mongku Yanchu, IPS, received the Highest Excellence award for clearing the IRS examination.
The Phinjam Newsletter was recognised for its continuous publication in the Chang Naga dialect for 25 years, and Chingmei village was honoured as the highest producer of millet in Nagaland.
Minister for Housing & Mechanical Engineering, P Beshangmongba Chang, hosted the programme, with Chief Minister Rio accompanied by Minister for RD and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir; Advisor Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, S Kiusumew Yimchunger, and Commissioner & Secretary, Kesonyu Yhome.
