KOHIMA: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will set-up a high-level committee within Nagaland to address issues related to railways and problem resolution.
The committee is scheduled to convene quarterly to ensure continuous communication between locals to develop infrastructure in harmony with local needs.
Informing this, Sabyasachi De, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NF Railway, said that the decision was taken during a meeting between NFR and the government on Monday.
The meeting between NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio served as a crucial platform to address concerns and facilitate the smooth execution of various railway projects within the state, De told the press.
He also informed that the discussion revolved around key initiatives, with the General Manager assuring the Chief Minister about achieving railway connectivity milestones in the ongoing Dhansiri-Zubza new line project.
The ambitious goal is to reach Molvom and Pherima by September 2024.
Furthermore, a commitment was also made to establish a Goods Yard at Molvom, aligning with the state’s request.
Looking beyond current projects, NF Railway envisions transforming railway connectivity in the region.
The upcoming Kohima connectivity project, set for commissioning in 2026, aims to establish direct rail connectivity between Kohima and Imphal, the respective capital cities of Nagaland and Manipur.
De also highlighted that the Shrivastava also provided updates on the reconnaissance engineering cum traffic survey for the Zubza-Imphal new line, which has been successfully completed.
With necessary contracts in place, the railway is now poised to initiate the Final Location Survey (FLS), marking significant progress in this crucial railway endeavour.
Notably, in 2022, NF Railway inaugurated the Shokhuvi Railway station in Nagaland, marking a historic milestone as the second railway station in the state after Dimapur.
The latter had been inaugurated after a hiatus of more than 100 years.
