Kohima: Fifteen members of the National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland unit, including the party’s vice president Bitong Sangtam, have officially joined the Congress party.
This was announced by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president and Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, at a press conference held at Congress Bhavan in Kohima on Monday.
The new members were welcomed into the party fold by NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo.
“We are very happy to welcome them. With these young people joining the party, we hope to bring more changes,” he said.
He said that the Congress with its strong commitment to serving the people is now poised to march forward with the support of these young and dynamic leaders.
“They have expressed their eagerness to contribute to the grassroots and work for the betterment of the people of Nagaland and this is the turning point for the Congress,” said Jamir.
Describing the move as a “significant step” for the Congress in Nagaland, Theunuo said the NPP leaders’ decision to join the party will help in fulfilling the vision and mission of the Congress party.
Among those who joined the Congress are NPP Nagaland Vice President Bitong Sangtam and NPP General Secretary (Organization) L Hiketo Shohe.
Sangtam expressed optimism about the future of Congress and his commitment to work hard for the party’s success.
Shohe said that the party offered a better platform for young leaders like them to grow and contribute to the development of Nagaland.

“I have no grudge against any of my former party colleagues but I believe this decision is in the best interest of the public,” Shohe said.
