A village farmer in Nagaland’s Wokha district may have grown the world’s longest banana—measuring an astonishing 15 inches (38.1 cm)—on his farmland in Mungyanphen Baghty Valley, a region renowned for its banana production.
The banana, discovered during a routine harvest on July 8, was grown by N. Tsanthungo Ngullie, who only realised its exceptional size after cutting it from the plant.
“It looked like the others at first, but once we measured it, we knew it was extraordinary,” Ngullie told local reporters.
Currently, the official Guinness World Record for the longest banana stands at 12 inches.
If verified, this Nagaland-grown fruit could surpass that benchmark and set a new global standard.

Following the discovery, local authorities quickly stepped in to document and preserve the specimen.
