KOHIMA: Nagaland’s Directorate of School Education has announced a new working schedule for all government and private schools functioning under the department across the state.
A notification to this effect was issued by the Principal Director of School Education, Thavaseelan K, stating that the new policy aligns with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023.
It also stated that the new regulations for working days in all schools have been issued after consultations with stakeholders.
As per the revised schedule, all Saturdays will now be designated as holidays for students in the Foundational Stage (Classes A, B, 1 and 2) and Preparatory Stage (Classes 3 to 5).
Meanwhile, for students in the Middle Stage (Classes 6 to 8) and Secondary/Higher Secondary Stages (Classes 9 to 12), only the second and fourth Saturdays of every month will be observed as holidays.
In addition to regular academic days, schools have been given the flexibility to organise 10 ‘bagless days’, assessments, examinations, non-academic activities and sports events on Saturdays, based on each school’s context.
The notification comes into force with immediate effect.

The Principal Director made the announcement during the State-Level Teachers’ Day celebration in Kohima on Thursday.
