Itanagar: Nagaland’s Motor Vehicles Department has launched the e-challan system at the Dimapur District Transport Office as part of efforts to promote digital governance and strengthen traffic management in the state.
With the rollout, Nagaland has become the 34th state in the country to adopt the electronic traffic enforcement system.
The service was formally inaugurated by Transport Commissioner and Secretary Robert Longchari on Monday, with Dimapur selected as the pilot district.
Addressing the programme as the special guest, Longchari appreciated the traffic police, the Home Department and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for their close coordination and collaborative efforts in successfully implementing the e-challan platform in Nagaland.
Longchari said the transition to a digital enforcement system would significantly curb manipulation and enhance the efficiency of traffic management.
He added that doing away with cash transactions marks a major step towards transparent governance and more citizen-friendly transport services.
“This transparency will build public trust by removing ambiguity, delays and negotiation. Our citizens deserve a fair and accountable system, and e-Challan is a major step towards that,” he said.
The commissioner said the e-challan platform would enhance compliance with traffic regulations by enabling systematic tracking of violations, thereby promoting responsible driving behaviour. He added that the government plans to roll out the system across all districts and integrate automatic surveillance cameras to further strengthen enforcement and data collection.
Referring to the national vision of Viksit Bharat and the state’s own Viksit Nagaland 2047 target, Longchari stressed the urgent need for a more dynamic and efficient transport system.
