Kohima: Nagaland’s Higher Education and Tourism Minister, Temjen Imna Along, has urged students to continually enhance their skills and adapt to changing times, emphasising the critical role of education as the foundation for societal progress.

Speaking at the 75th-anniversary celebration of the Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU) at Viswema Village, approximately 23 kms from Kohima, the minister highlighted the importance of combining academic excellence with practical abilities.

The event, held under the theme “Inspirational Address,” brought together over 1,500 students, leaders, and dignitaries to reflect on the community’s achievements and future aspirations.

“The pursuit of knowledge, when paired with humility and perseverance, becomes a powerful driver of societal growth,” Along stated.

He emphasised the increasing need for professional and vocational education to enable the region to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

The minister lauded the Southern Angami community for its contributions to education, with the region housing 44 educational institutions, including schools and colleges.

He encouraged the community to continue supporting its students through scholarships and coaching programs to help them excel on a national platform.

Addressing the younger generation, Along underscored the importance of unity, cultural pride, and a progressive mindset.

He called on the community to foster connections with broader society, including corporate and government sectors, to drive economic and educational advancements.

Encouraging Southern Angami students to act as ambassadors of their culture and traditions while striving for excellence, he urged them to carry forward the torch of wisdom and heritage.

SASU President Letso Mekro also addressed the gathering, emphasising the community’s responsibility to preserve the Kezoltsa and Dzukou mountain ranges for future generations.

“The actions we take today will shape the lives of future generations,” Mekro asserted, pledging the community’s commitment to environmental conservation for clean air and fresh water.

The event served as a platform to celebrate the resilience of the Southern Angami community and the transformative power of education, inspiring the younger generation to envision a brighter and more sustainable future.
