Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday inaugurated the Nagaland Solar Mission, aimed at accelerating the adoption of rooftop solar energy under the ‘Prime Minister Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY)’.
At the launch event, Rio emphasised the state’s commitment to addressing power shortages through renewable energy.
The government has introduced an additional state subsidy of up to Rs. 50,000 for solar installations up to 3 kW, complementing the central government’s initiative.
The chief minister highlighted that this combined subsidy would significantly reduce installation costs for households, enabling affordable access to solar energy.
Rio also pointed out that households could benefit from reduced electricity bills by supplying excess solar power to the grid.
He encouraged citizens to take advantage of this initiative to embrace sustainable energy solutions.
Power and Parliamentary Affairs Minister K.G. Kenye expressed optimism about the scheme’s impact, stating that the additional state subsidy would make rooftop solar installations more accessible, fostering public participation in the state’s green energy revolution.
He added that this initiative could alleviate Nagaland’s chronic power shortages and drive socio-economic growth.
