Kohima: The Konyak Union (KU) met Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday at the State Secretariat in Kohima to press for the creation of new districts by bifurcating Mon District.
Led by its President, K. Yamao Konyak, the delegation submitted a reminder letter to the Chief Minister, emphasizing that the demand reflects “the collective aspiration and mounting pressure from the grassroots populace” for administrative decentralization.
The KU highlighted that Mon District’s large geographical area, difficult terrain, and growing population have led to administrative challenges under the current setup.
The delegation argued that forming new districts is crucial for achieving equitable development, efficient governance, and better access to public services.
Additionally, Yamao Konyak addressed the security concerns in the Tizit–Tiru–Naginimora border region and requested that the state government accelerate the completion of the Nagaland Foothills Road project.

Chief Minister Rio congratulated the new KU team and assured them of his support in addressing the concerns of the Konyak community.
