Kohima: The Kohima district administration has prohibited ‘shoot-at-sight orders’ issued by some organizations to cull stray dogs in the Nagaland capital.
Kohima Additional Deputy Commissioner Rhosietho Nguori issued a directive on Saturday, stating that it has come to notice that certain organisations and associations within the Kohima municipal wards and villages in Kohima district issued ‘shoot- at-sight orders’ for stray dogs.
Nguori said that such actions violate provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA Act) and the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS), which prohibit the killing of animals, including stray dogs.
“Such acts are strictly prohibited under the law. Strictly prohibiting any individual, organization, or association from engaging in such activities,” the order said.
The order instructed residents to report the presence of stray dogs to the municipal or town council authorities in urban areas, or to the respective village authorities/area administrative officers in rural areas.

It stated that the authorities concerned would take care of such dogs as per the laid-down procedures with the help of the chief veterinary office.
The order further stated that strict action would be taken against those who violate the government’s directive.
