Kohima: In a landmark move towards reconciliation and progress, 28 Naga tribal apex bodies and 12 Naga political groups (NPGs) have come together to launch the ‘Naga Bridge’ initiative.
Spearheaded by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), this effort seeks to foster unity, dialogue, and a shared vision for the Naga future.
The initiative was unveiled during a convergence meeting at Medziphema on Tuesday, which the FNR described as a historic gathering.
The meeting was characterised by an atmosphere of openness, humility, and a shared commitment to the advancement of the Naga people.
The FNR emphasised that the symbolic ‘Naga Bridge’ is not merely a metaphor but a foundation deeply rooted in the historical and political rights of the Nagas.
These rights, they noted, are living testaments to the people’s enduring assertion of identity, dignity, and self-determination.
Participants in the meeting highlighted the importance of overcoming divisions and uniting under a single platform, referred to as the “common Machan,” to enable coordinated dialogue.
They called for all tribal apex bodies across regions to lend their moral and cultural support to shared Naga aspirations while respecting the distinct identities of individual communities.
A proposal was also made to create an inclusive forum for addressing differences with mutual trust and integrity, signalling a shift from competition to cooperation.
Concerns about polarization were voiced during the meeting, with calls for groups to rise above divisive habits and work towards a united future.
