Kohima: Days of relentless rainfall have caused landslides and widespread flooding in Nagaland’s capital Kohima and its commercial hub Dimapur, disrupting daily life and damaging property in multiple areas.
In Kohima, officials reported two separate landslide incidents—one on Friday when the retaining wall of the Soil and Water Conservation Department collapsed, and another on Saturday at the Police Headquarters.
At least four vehicles were damaged in the two incidents.
Heavy downpour throughout the weekend also led to severe waterlogging in various parts of Kohima, affecting traffic and normal activities.
In Dimapur, floodwaters inundated several low-lying areas, resulting in heavy traffic congestion, particularly along Nagarjan Road.
The worst-affected localities include United Colony, Sachu Colony, Zeliangrongram Colony, and Burma Camp, where floodwaters remained stagnant for hours.

The Dimapur District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a public advisory urging residents to stay away from rivers and streams amid fears of flash floods due to the continuous rainfall.
The advisory specifically warned against fishing, picnicking, or any water-related activities near riverbanks, and instructed all villages along riversides to suspend such activities for the duration of the monsoon season.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols as rain continues to lash the region.
