KOHIMA: The Directorate of School Education (DoSE) in Nagaland has issued a stern warning to government schools in the state, cautioning them against charging excess fees.
The DoSE has directed them to strictly adhere to the revised fee structure outlined by the department.
The revised fee structure, initially notified on June 17, 2022, and reiterated on January 25, 2024, serves as a benchmark for schools to follow.
However, recent observations revealed that certain government schools were flouting these guidelines by imposing fees higher than those permitted by the June 17 notification.
In response to these discrepancies, the DoSE issued a caution notice on May 6, urging schools to comply with the prescribed fee structure.
Furthermore, the department highlighted the necessity for schools providing additional items such as uniforms, t-shirts, neckties, and belts to obtain approval for the rates from the respective School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs).
Additionally, the notice reiterated that the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) fee structure should be adjusted in accordance with notifications issued by the Board periodically.
Under the guidelines specified in the June 17 fee structure, students enrolling in Class 9 are required to pay a total of Rs 2300 for the academic year, while those in Class 10 are charged Rs 1600 during admission.
The admission fees for Class 11 vary depending on the stream, ranging from Rs 3150 to 4650.
For Class 12 students, admission fees range from Rs 1850 to 3350, as outlined in the fee structure.
It is important to note that students up to Class 8 are exempted from admission and examination fees under the Right to Education Act 2009, except for any fees mandated by the Nagaland Board of School Education.
The DoSE’s proactive measures aim to ensure transparency and fairness in fee collection processes across government schools in Nagaland, safeguarding the interests of students and parents alike.
