Dimapur: The Nagaland Congress on Saturday raised concerns about forces undermining the Constitution and implementing policies that conflict with the interests of citizens.

Speaking at the launch of the Congress membership drive in Dimapur, NPCC working president C. Apok Jamir emphasised the need to defend secularism and safeguard the values enshrined in the Constitution.

“The very essence of our way of life and belief is under threat from certain policies that have been propagated over the past 14 years,” said Jamir, who is also a former Rajya Sabha MP.

Jamir described Congress as the sole political party capable of championing the Constitution and protecting the rights of citizens.

“To ensure understanding, unity, and progress, it is the duty of every citizen to stand against a government that violates the principles of the Constitution,” he added.

He clarified that the membership drive is not merely about numbers but a movement to awaken citizens to the challenges facing the nation.

“We need collective involvement to challenge oppression and work together for meaningful change,” he urged.

Highlighting the inclusive nature of religion, Jamir said, “Hinduism is a tolerant faith that promotes love and peace, but a section of people is trying to create division and hatred in society.”

Jamir also called on the people of Nagaland to leverage their democratic power.

“The people have already shown their strength in parliamentary elections by electing a representative truly committed to their welfare,” he said, referring to NPCC president and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir.

The membership drive in Dimapur district will continue until March 22, with subsequent campaigns planned across other districts, the party announced.

This initiative underscores the Congress party’s commitment to addressing issues of governance and uniting citizens to protect constitutional values.
