Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday virtually laid foundation stones for nine Lighthouse School Complexes (LSCs) under the flagship Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse (NECTAR) during a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex (CMRC) in Kohima.
CM Rio laid the foundation of Lighthouse School Complexes (LSCs) for Chümoukedima, Phek, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Shamator, Noklak, Longleng, Mokokchung, and Dimapur districts.
Funded by the World Bank, the LSCs are envisioned as model schools with all facilities required to function as hubs of academic excellence.
In December 2024, the chief minister laid the foundation stones for 7 LSCs in Mon, Kohima, Niuland, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang, and Wokha.
Under the NECTAR project, one LSC each will be developed in the 16 districts of Nagaland. The total cost for the construction of the 16 LSCs is estimated at Rs 198.57 crore.
These complexes are aimed at promoting holistic, inclusive, and sustainable education by incorporating local knowledge, community participation, and innovation.
He underscored the critical role of education in empowering the youth and shaping the future of Nagaland.
“A strong schooling system is key to equipping our students to perform & compete even beyond the State. I’m confident initiatives like @nectarnagaland will empower our students for the future,” Rio posted on X.
Rio commended the Department of School Education and the NECTAR team for their innovative work, which aims to transform classrooms and teaching methods and change the entire ecosystem of schools in the state.

He also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and other funding partners for their continued collaboration and support.
The chief minister also inaugurated six sports and recreational facilities across the state. These facilities will serve as centres to nurture excellence, express creativity, foster talent and growth, he said.
