Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday (May 29) launched the Nagaland Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM) at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex in Kohima, aiming to empower 5,000 youth across the state through skill development and employment opportunities.
Speaking about the mission, CM Rio said, “The NSEDM is designed to bridge the crucial gap between education, training, and employment, which is essential in today’s fast-evolving job market. The mission aims to train and empower 5,000 young people with market-driven skills.”
The Chief Minister also urged young people to consider opportunities beyond government jobs, encouraging them to pursue private enterprise with dedication and confidence, thereby contributing to the state’s economic growth.
Highlighting the role of the NSEDM digital portal, he noted that it would provide easy and affordable access to skill training and job opportunities.
The portal also integrates schemes like the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI), through which Rs 35 crore has been earmarked to support around 1,600 entrepreneurs.
He congratulated the training partners and expressed optimism that their contributions would significantly uplift the state’s socio-economic landscape.
Chief Secretary Dr. J. Alam said, “NSEDM will be implemented in a convergence mode, uniting all stakeholder departments under a single framework to ensure seamless access to the mission’s services.”
The mission aims to skill young people for the private sector’s evolving needs, preparing them for future industry demands, he added.
Through focused training, strategic placement, and entrepreneurial development, the mission aims to provide youth with market-relevant skills and promote sustainable employment opportunities.
The key objectives of NSEDM include training youth in industry-aligned, market-driven skills, ensuring 60% to 80% employment or entrepreneurship outcomes.
Besides, it aims to reduce dependency on academic degrees by promoting hands-on expertise.
So far, three training partners— Eagle Crest, Pinnacle Skills and AISECT (All India Society for Electronics and Computer Technology)— have signed the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with NSEDM for implementation of the mission.
