KOHIMA: In a strategic effort to enhance Nagaland’s educational infrastructure, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stressed on the need for having a government college in each district of the state. Demonstrating his administration’s dedication to education, he revealed plans for the inauguration of a government college in Shamator as part of this commitment.
“With Shamator being one of the newest districts of Nagaland, it is important for its residents to rally together to promote the district’s advancement,” he told the gathering at the 75th Platinum Jubilee celebration of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Rio underscored unity as the need of the hour, asserting it was “necessary for our collective progress”. He further urged the Nagas to appreciate the essence of a common Naga identity and fortify both the territorial and emotional integrity of Nagaland.

Acknowledging Shamator’s recent district status, the Chief Minister reassured that the state government has been paying due attention to its infrastructural and developmental necessities. He outlined various initiatives underway to bring Shamator at par with other districts in terms of development.
Highlighting government schemes, Rio prompted the attendees to utilise the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) and informed them about a micro loan scheme that enables citizens to avail loans up to Rs. 50 lakhs.
A series of important unveilings marked the jubilee celebration. The Chief Minister launched the Jubilee Monolith, dedicated by YBBA Executive Secretary Rev. Dr SJ Akhum, and released the Jubilee Souvenir. Apart from that, he also remotely inaugurated the NEFA Road linking Sangphur to Soil colony in Shamator, an initiative completed under SASCI (State) for the fiscal year 2023-24.

Several dignitaries graced the occasion with their messages, including the president of Tenyimi Union Nagaland, CNTC president, and ENPO president. Additionally, the jubilee host and advisor for youth resources and sports, S Keoshu Yimkhiung, delivered a short address. The inaugural event was presided over by missionary Rev. Hopong with the welcome note presented by planning committee convener Lakiumong.
