KOHIMA: The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has decided to join the ongoing All Nagaland Indefinite Shutter Down against rampant illegal taxation by Underground Groups.
Calling on all business establishments across Nagaland to keep their shutters down tomorrow, the Chamber has written to all its district units to support the decision.
“This is to inform your office that with no positive response from the State government, the CNCCI office has decided to join the all-Nagaland Indefinite Shutter Down starting April 27, 2024,” stated a letter by CNCCI to its Dimapur Unit, on Friday.
The letter also specified that banking establishments, educational institutes, government offices, and all medical-related activities would be exempt from the closure.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Home Department has appealed to the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) to end its indefinite shutdown enforced across the state from today.
In an effort to persuade the DCCI to reopen business establishments, the Department has instructed the Director General of Police, Nagaland, and the Commissioner of Kohima to take strict action against Underground Groups (UGs) involved in extortion, particularly in Dimapur.

Earlier today, activity ground to a halt in three districts of Nagaland as the DCCI implemented an indefinite shutdown of businesses starting at 6 am.
Most shops and business establishments remained shuttered, transforming the typically lively streets of Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima into desolate scenes.
The DCCI instigated the closure in response to purported taxation, intimidation, and harassment endured by the business community from various NPGs on April 26.
