KOHIMA: The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has rebuffed gay marriage and adultery, aligning its stance with the precepts of the Bible.
Dr Zelhou Keyhou, the general secretary of the NBCC, reiterated the church’s position during a statement on Tuesday.
He stressed the importance of clarity and compassion when addressing issues concerning the LGBTQ+ community.
Keyhou highlighted that while the church stands opposed to the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, it harbours no ill will towards individuals “grappling with such inclinations”.
He highlighted the principle of “love the person but hate the sin”, affirming that the church’s stance is firmly rooted in adherence to Christian teachings.
The NBCC clarified its stance, affirming that while it refrains from criminalising or stigmatising individuals, it remains resolute in its assertion that homosexual practices run counter to biblical teachings.
Moreover, Keyhou stressed on the church’s duty to uphold biblical morality, irrespective of societal shifts or legislative changes.
He stressed that the church’s moral compass is anchored in timeless biblical principles rather than transient cultural norms.
The NBCC reaffirmed its commitment to extending compassionate outreach to individuals grappling with their sexual orientation.
Keyhou cautioned against compromising biblical morality in response to societal pressures, asserting the primacy of the church’s fidelity to its principles.
He also warned against yielding to secular influences that seek to erode the church’s moral integrity.
The church expressed its commitment to extending compassion and understanding to individuals of diverse sexual orientations without condoning behaviours contrary to biblical precepts.
