Kohima: In a significant political shift, 15 National People’s Party (NPP) members joined the Congress at Congress Bhavan in Nagaland‘s Dimapur on Saturday.

The group was led by Sudesh Bhagat, NPP’s State Minority Department President, and Jaser Meru, General Secretary of the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF).

In a press release, the Communications Department of NPCC stated that the joining event was attended by L Chuba Yimchunger, NPCC General Secretary in charge – Dimapur; Javed Sarwar, Chairman, Minority Department, NPCC; Kutoho Chishi, President, Dimapur DCC, and other PCC members and secretaries, and Congress workers.

A brief welcoming ceremony was organized, which was presided over by Kumjimong, General Secretary of Dimapur DCC.

Javed Sarwar, chairman of the Minority Department, NPCC, welcomed the new members.

He further encouraged the new members of the party to work towards strengthening the Congress party in Nagaland.

Addressing the gathering, L Chuba Yimchunger, Sudesh Bhagat, Jaser Meru, and L Hiketo Shohe shared their perspectives on the political transition.

Earlier this year, 15 leaders from the National People’s Party (NPP) joined the Congress in Nagaland on January 20. These leaders, including the former NPP General Secretary, resigned earlier this year to seek new opportunities for growth in their political careers.

Former NPP General Secretary L Hiketo Shohe expressed his belief in the Congress party’s ethos and principles, highlighting the need for a drastic change in the state’s politics.

He hailed the members for making the right decision and assured them of working together to strengthen the Congress party in Nagaland.

NPCC Working President Khriedi Theunuo mentioned that the recognition of Congress’s policies and programs led to their decision.

The defection is a major setback for the NPP in the region.
