KOHIMA: The first-of-its-kind Northeastern States Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Conclave opened its doors on Monday at Niathu Resort, offering a platform for holistic business dialogue and collaboration.
The three-day event, witnessing representation from all eight northeastern states, became a melting pot for business magnates, policymakers, academicians, and thought leaders.
With central themes focusing on the amalgamation of the northeastern states into a synergistic market, the conclave is set to have in-depth discussions on the Act East policy. There is a keen intent to ensure the policy benefits the vast expanse of the region, ranging from urban hubs to the smaller, wayside communities.
Marking the event’s importance, Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, highlighted the strategic importance of the Northeast.
“Hosting the 1st NE States Chamber of Commerce & Industry Business Conclave is indeed a milestone,” he remarked. Taking to a popular micro-blogging site after the event, he wrote, “Positioned at the crossroads of India and Southeast Asia, the Northeast is poised to harness the Act East Policy’s immense trade and investment potential. This is our golden ticket, and we must innovate to fully benefit from it.”
Sustainability was high on the agenda of the conclave, with sessions lined up to tackle the responsible use of the region’s natural resources. The Chief Minister further underscored the region’s rich natural endowments, advocating for sustainable practices. “We owe it to our lands to prioritise responsible extraction and processing of our rich biodiversity and mineral resources,” Rio added.
The conclave also aims to break down barriers impeding a flourishing business landscape and dispel misconceptions about the Northeast held by the broader national community.
In a message of solidarity and support, Sunil Singhi, Chairman of the National Trader’s Welfare Board, Govt of India, who graced the occasion as special guest, assured that the board remains steadfast in its commitment to elevate business groups with the collective might of all northeastern states.
As the conclave progresses over the next couple of days, it is expected to chart a roadmap for the Northeast, propelling a future marked by mutual growth and sustainable prosperity.
