KOHIMA: A Northeast girl band, comprising 25 members from Nagaland, is set to make history by participating in the NCC Republic Day Camp.
The band, consisting of dynamic young talents aged 13 to 15, will showcase the rich cultural diversity of the region, highlighting the nationwide influence of the National Cadet Corps.
All 25 girls are students of St Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School in Kohima, Nagaland.
Addressing a press conference at Delhi Cantt on January 3, DG NCC Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh revealed that a total of 2,274 cadets, with a record-breaking 907 girls, are part of the month-long camp, highlighting the diversity and inclusivity within the NCC.
The Northeast is represented by 177 cadets, with the unique addition of the Nagaland girl band.
The Republic Day Camp aims to expose cadets to the rich traditions of the nation while reinforcing their value system.
It serves as a platform for cultural exchange, promoting national integration and unity in diversity.
The 25-member girl band from Nagaland is expected to showcase the vibrant cultural tapestry of the Northeast, adding a unique flavour to the event.
Lt Gen Singh highlighted the various accomplishments of the NCC in 2023, including Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat camps, Vibrant Village area camps, DRDO camps, and an Aerospace camp.
The organisation also excelled in sporting events, mountaineering expeditions, and participated in G20 events.
The DG NCC highlighted the evolving training philosophy focused on personality development, leadership traits, and soft skills to prepare cadets for future challenges, highlighting the spirit of “Nation first”.
The Republic Day Camp will witness the presence of dignitaries, including the Vice President, Defence Minister, Chief of Defence Staff, and the three Service Chiefs.
