KOHIMA: The Ambassador of Japan to India, Hiroshi Suzuki, who is on a two-day visit to Kohima, joined hands with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to inaugurate the Kohima Peace Memorial and Eco Park on Wednesday.

The inauguration ceremony marked a momentous occasion, symbolising the shared commitment of Japan and Nagaland towards peace and reconciliation.

Following the inauguration, Ambassador Suzuki, accompanied by a Japanese delegation, embarked on a tour of the historic Kohima Cathedral Church and the World War II Museum at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.

At the church, the Ambassador was greeted with a choir performance by church members.

Subsequently, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, the bishop of Kohima, provided insights into the unique blend of Gothic and Roman architecture of the historic church.

Earlier, Ambassador Suzuki’s visit to Nagaland commenced on Tuesday, as he embarked on a two-day journey to strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties between Japan and the region.

Upon his arrival in Kohima on the evening of May 7, he was warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his wife, Kaisa Rio, at the CM Residential Complex.

Taking to the microblogging site X, Chief Minister Rio expressed his delight at welcoming Ambassador Suzuki back to Nagaland and expressed optimism about reinforcing cultural and diplomatic relations between the two nations.

A vibrant cultural programme, organised by the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), provided a fitting tribute to the visiting dignitaries.

Artistes from across the state showcased the rich cultural heritage of Nagaland, adding a touch of vibrancy to the occasion.

The presence of Chief Secretary J Alam, along with ministers, advisors, MLAs, AHoDs, and HoDs, underscored the significance of the cultural programme and the broader diplomatic engagement.

Chief Minister Rio’s active participation reaffirmed Nagaland’s steadfast commitment to nurturing strong ties with Japan.

The relationship between Ambassador Suzuki and Chief Minister Rio reflects a shared vision of promoting cultural understanding and forging lasting partnerships.

As Nagaland continues to embrace opportunities for collaboration and exchange, the visit of Ambassador Suzuki serves as a catalyst for further strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nagaland and Japan.
