Aizawl: The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which leads the government in Mizoram, has announced Mizo gospel singer Vanlalsailova as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Dampa constituency.
The Election Commission is yet to declare the polling date for the seat, which fell vacant following the death of Mizo National Front (MNF) legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo on July 21.
ZPM president Lalliansawta made the announcement during a party event in Aizawl, congratulating Vanlalsailova and urging party members to unite for the contest.
This will be Vanlalsailova’s second attempt at the seat. He narrowly lost in the 2023 assembly polls to Sailo by just 292 votes.
Expressing gratitude for the nomination, the singer—who hails from West Phaileng in the Dampa constituency—described the opportunity as a blessing and vowed to work for the development of the region.
He appealed to voters to back the ruling party to ensure progress.
Meanwhile, other parties are yet to reveal their candidates for the by-poll.
