AIZAWL: In the wake of a resounding triumph in the Mizoram Assembly polls, Lalduhoma, the chief ministerial face of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), will be sworn in on December 8.
The decision was taken during a meeting with newly elected legislators, Val Upa Council, the decision-making body of the party, and other leaders at on thenight of December 5, the local press reported.
Following the crucial meeting, Lalduhoma is expected to meet with Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati today to formally stake the claim for the formation of the next government.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to strategise the formation of the next government in the state, as confirmed by a senior party leader.
The ZPM secured a landslide victory in the assembly polls held on December 4, capturing 27 out of the total 40 seats.
Now, with the electoral mandate in hand, Lalduhoma is gearing up to navigate the intricacies of forming the council of ministers and distributing portfolios within the party.
Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer who once served as the security in-charge of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, expressed satisfaction with his party’s majority win in the House.
He also stressed on the importance of establishing robust ties with the Centre
The ZPM’s triumph in the state assembly polls marks a significant political shift, displacing the incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF), which managed to secure only 10 seats.
Both the BJP and the Congress lagged behind, securing just two and one seat, respectively. In the 2018 assembly elections, the MNF had secured 26 seats.
Senior Election Commission officers of the state also submitted the due-constitution notification of the state assembly elections to the Governor on the night of December 5, according to a national news agency.
