AIZAWL: Former Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh will officially assume the role of Mizoram’s governor on January 9, according to an official announcement made on Monday.
The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, his cabinet colleagues, Speaker of the Mizoram Assembly Lalbiakzama, Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima, Members of Parliament, senior officials, and other special invitees.
Singh will take the oath of office and secrecy, which will be administered by the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
General Singh, appointed by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, will succeed Hari Babu Kambhampati, who has recently been appointed as the Governor of Odisha after the resignation of Raghubar Das.

Born in 1951, Singh served as the 24th Chief of Army Staff from 2010 to 2012. Following his retirement from the military, Singh entered politics in 2014, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and was re-elected in 2019.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first term, Singh served in various ministerial capacities, including as the Minister of State for External Affairs, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation. In the second term, he was entrusted with the portfolios of Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation.
