Aizawl: Union Minister Savitri Thakur arrived in Mizoram’s Aizawl on Wednesday on a three-day visit to review the welfare schemes under the Women and Child Development Department.
During the visit, the Union Minister will inspect several facilities, including shelter homes in the state.
Soon after her arrival in the state capital, the Minister visited several government-supported shelter homes at Aizawl’s Durtlang neighbourhood.
These included Shakti Sadan, a shelter home for women facing difficulties, Observation Home (for children in conflict with the law), Special Home (to guide children on the right path) and Place of Safety (a home for children above 16 years facing serious legal cases).
According to official sources, Thakur conducted a thorough review of the services at these homes.
She interacted directly with administrators and beneficiaries to evaluate the ground-level impact.
These visits were part of her wider effort to monitor the effectiveness of central welfare initiatives and suggest necessary improvements.
She also held a review meeting with the State Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Minister Lalrinpuii along with senior officials of the department.

Thakur is scheduled to visit Khawzawl and Champhai districts in the eastern part of the state on Thursday. She will meet Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday before departing for Delhi.
