Aizawl: Two journalists from Mizoram, HC Vanlalruata and Isaac Zoramsanga, have become the first from the state to be part of a team that won an International Emmy Award for a documentary.

Vanlalruata and Isaac served as field producers for BBC News on the short-form documentary titled “Myanmar’s Civil War.”

Their crucial ground-level support during a ten-day reporting mission in western Myanmar was instrumental to the project’s success.

The short-form documentary titled “Myanmar’s Civil War” won in the category Outstanding Continuing News Coverage – Short Form at the 46th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

The 6.5-minute documentary sheds light on how local rebel groups have pushed the military out of several areas, and also exposes disturbing reports of torture, abduction, and killings used by the junta to crush resistance and deter youth from joining the armed struggle.

Speaking to NortheastNews, Isaac Zoramsanga said: “It is difficult to put into words how thrilled we are. I am overjoyed to see my name on the Emmy list.”

“Our documentary’s primary focus is on the aftermath of the Civil War, the ways in which civilians oppose the military, and the broader societal impacts. I would like to express my gratitude to the BBC team for acknowledging our efforts in producing this documentary,” he added.
