Aizawl: A two-day tourism festival, ‘Tlaizawng Paradise’, focusing on eco-tourism, conservation of natural resources and the promotion of local livelihoods, kicked off in Mizoram’s Saitual district on Tuesday.
The event was inaugurated by Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, marking an effort to highlight the region’s natural attractions while encouraging sustainable tourism practices.
Speaking at the inaugural function at Phuaibuang village, Lalbiakzama said the event was organised to attract tourists by highlighting the region’s rich natural beauty and biodiversity. He emphasised that community unity and collective participation are essential for the sustainable development of tourism in the state.
Phuaibuang and its surrounding areas are well known for their cherry blossoms, locally called ‘Tlaizawng’, which serve as a major attraction for visitors.
The festival also features a range of adventure tourism activities, including cave exploration, mountain hiking and mass angling. According to officials, around 600 participants took part in a mega angling event held in the Tuivai river near Phuaibuang village on Tuesday.
