Aizawl: Traffic resumed on a crucial stretch of National Highway-306 in Mizoram on Wednesday after six days of disruption caused by emergency repair work undertaken by the Mizoram Tipper Association (MTA), officials confirmed.
The affected section, between Sairang and Kawnpui, had become impassable following heavy rainfall between June 26 and 30, severely damaging the road and halting the movement of trucks and tankers carrying essential supplies, including fuel and LPG.
National Highway-306, which also includes parts of NH-6, serves as Mizoram’s primary link to the rest of the country, connecting the capital Aizawl to Silchar in Assam.
The blockade led to a statewide shortage of fuel and essential commodities over the past week.
The Kolasib unit of the MTA stepped in to carry out repairs after what it described as prolonged inaction by the authorities.
In a statement issued by the association, it said the repair work was concluded on Tuesday evening, allowing trucks to resume movement late that night.
Fuel and LPG trucks were among the first to be released as the highway reopened.

The MTA also acknowledged the support of commercial vehicle operators and local volunteers who contributed to the repair efforts.
“The Sairang-Kawnpui stretch was in such a poor condition that trucks could no longer operate safely. We regret the inconvenience caused to the public during this period, but the repairs were necessary to restore connectivity,” the MTA said in its statement.
Officials said that with truck movement now restored, the supply of fuel and other essentials is expected to normalise across the state in the coming days.
