Agartala: The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) will supply 40 MW of electricity to Mizoram during the Christmas season as part of a longstanding arrangement of power exchange between the two neighbouring states.

Confirming this on Sunday, TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Bose said the initiative reflects the continued cooperation between Tripura and Mizoram in maintaining steady power availability during major festivals.

Earlier, during Durga Puja, Mizoram had supplied an equal quantum of 40 MW to Tripura to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the state.

“We had an agreement to receive 40 MW during Durga Puja, although we did not draw the entire allocation as demand remained lower than expected,” Bose explained.

According to the official, Tripura’s power demand during the four-day Durga Puja period was estimated at 363 MW but peaked only at 360 MW on Maha Ashtami (September 30), staying between 290 MW and 320 MW on other days.

“There was no power shortage or outage during the festival as we had taken all necessary steps to ensure a seamless supply,” Bose added.

He said Mizoram will begin drawing the 40 MW power from Tripura during December and January, coinciding with its Christmas and New Year celebrations.
