Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has said that the state government is keen to encourage more youths to enrol in the Indian Army and other security forces.
Addressing an event in Aizawl on Wednesday, Lalduhoma highlighted the significant contribution made by the Mizo community during India’s freedom struggle, World War II, and various wars fought after Independence in defence of the country.
“Our government wants as many youths as possible to join the armed forces, and we are taking all possible steps in this direction,” the chief minister said.
He also informed that the state government has raised the Mizo Territorial Army and that recruitment for the unit is currently underway.
Expressing concern over the low enrolment rate at Mizoram’s lone Sainik School at Chhingchhip in Serchhip district, Lalduhoma urged young people to take admission in the institution and prepare themselves for a career in the armed forces.
Emphasising welfare initiatives for war veterans and ex-servicemen, the chief minister said the Mizoram government has designated Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMCH) and Zemabawk Cancer Hospital in Aizawl as facilities where veterans can receive free medical treatment.
