Sangau: A group of visiting doctors, including senior surgeons from Guwahati, held an impromptu health camp at Sangau in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district on Wednesday evening.
The camp was attended by over 40 local patients, who received medical check-ups and prescriptions from Dr. Hiranmoy Das and Dr. Sekhar Das.
Dr. Hiranmoy Das, an assistant professor of surgery at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, and Dr. Sekhar Das, a senior surgeon practicing in the United Kingdom, organised the camp in collaboration with Dr. George Bawitlung, a local healthcare provider at the Sangau Primary Health Centre.
The camp was set up at Dr. George’s residence after the doctors and their group returned from a trekking expedition to Blue Mountain near the Indo-Myanmar border.
The two doctors expressed satisfaction at being able to provide medical assistance to the local community but also highlighted the need for basic medical facilities such as ECG, X-ray, and ultrasound services in the area.
The visiting group, called “Trekkers Group Guwahati,” was on a five-day trip in Mizoram, having also visited Champhai, Ri-Dil Lake, and Zokhawthar.

The group, composed of individuals aged 48-50, has been undertaking trekking expeditions for the past 25-30 years in various states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
Alongside their trekking activities, the group has been advocating for environmental conservation, promoting cleanliness in forests, protecting wildlife, and encouraging eco-tourism initiatives.
In addition to trekking, the group also conducts cloth distribution programs in regions like the Garbhanga Reserve Forest near Guwahati, supporting local communities through their expeditions.
