Aizawl: The North Eastern Council (NEC) released Rs 4.89 crore for the implementation of various development projects in Mizoram in December last year, the council said in a statement on Friday.
During the same month, the NEC disbursed a total of over Rs 76.78 crore for projects across all Northeastern states, as well as for regional and other agencies operating in the region.
Of this amount, more than Rs 4.89 crore was allocated to Mizoram for several initiatives, including the establishment of a fish farmer training centre at Lengpui, a Mizo cultural heritage centre at Kawlri in Serchhip district to preserve the state’s historical and natural heritage, and projects aimed at enhancing state revenue through the use of information technology for monitoring mineral exploitation and resource mapping.
In addition to state-specific allocations, the NEC released Rs 26.47 crore to regional and other agencies during the same period. These funds supported a range of region-wide initiatives implemented by universities, research institutions, specialised corporations and cultural organisations across the Northeast.

“The support reflects the NEC’s continued commitment to strengthening developmental initiatives in the Northeast through infrastructure development, livelihood enhancement, cultural promotion, research and innovation,” the statement said.
