Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF) has accused Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma of making a “provocative and divisive” speech during a campaign rally in Mamit district, alleging that his remarks could create tension among communities ahead of the Dampa by-election.
Addressing reporters in Aizawl on Thursday, MNF legal board member Saihmingliana Sailo claimed that the chief minister’s speech at Silsury village on November 1 breached the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
He alleged that Lalduhoma accused former Mizo leaders of spreading hatred against a particular tribal group, a statement Sailo described as “highly objectionable and unethical.”

“The chief minister’s comments were made with the intent to provoke and divide. Such behaviour violates the MCC and the principles of responsible governance,” Sailo said.
He further alleged that Lalduhoma misused his official position by attempting to influence voters through promises of financial assistance and road construction projects during the campaign.
The MNF’s legal board has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission, seeking action against the chief minister for alleged MCC violations.
Polling for the Dampa by-election is scheduled for November 11, with counting on November 14.
