Aizawl: Mizoram bid farewell to one of its most remarkable elders, Famiangi, who passed away at the age of 117 in Pangkhua village, Lawngtlai district.
Her death marks the end of a life that spanned colonial India, independence, and the present day.
Local community leaders confirmed that Famiangi died peacefully at her residence on Tuesday.
Village records indicate she was born in 1908 and married the late Heinawna, with whom she had eight children.
Over the years, her extended family grew to include 51 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Famiangi was widely respected not only for her longevity but also for her vitality and active civic engagement.
Her family fondly recalled her deep interest in politics, noting that she voted in the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections.

In recognition of her participation, the state election commission awarded her a certificate of appreciation.
Though her health began to decline earlier this year due to age-related ailments, it was only in recent weeks that her condition worsened significantly.
Famiangi’s extraordinary life and legacy leave an indelible mark on her community. She was considered among the oldest living individuals not just in Mizoram but across India.
