Aizawl: A 47-year-old woman has been arrested in Mizoram’s Champhai town near the India-Myanmar border after methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 16.65 crore were seized from her possession, an official said on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the state excise and narcotics department, along with Assam Rifles, conducted a joint operation in Champhai’s Lalen Veng area on Tuesday, recovering 5.55 kg of methamphetamine tablets, the official added.
The arrested woman, identified as Zolianthangi, a resident of Champhai’s Venglai locality, was found in possession of the contraband, which was reportedly being smuggled to Sribhumi in Assam.
She has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the official said.
Authorities are now investigating the source of the drugs and whether the accused was part of a larger smuggling network operating across the India-Myanmar border.

The seizure is being hailed as a major breakthrough in curbing the trafficking of narcotics in the region, officials said, emphasizing the importance of coordinated operations between state and central agencies along the porous border areas.
