Aizawl: Mizoram’s Sports and Tourism Minister, Lalnghinglova Hmar, has announced that the second edition of the Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM) will be held on February 14, 2026, in Aizawl.
The announcement was made at a curtain-raiser press conference at Mizoram House, New Delhi on Friday (October 17).
Minister Hmar described the marathon as more than a sporting event, saying it reflects Mizoram’s identity, commitment to youth development, and engagement with the global community.
“This marathon is an expression of Mizoram’s identity, our commitment to sports and youth development, and our aspiration to welcome the world to our hills,” he said.
Themed “Connecting India — Developing Mizoram — Empowering Sports,” AIHM 2026 aims to promote fitness, inclusivity, tourism, and the cultural and sporting image of the northeastern state.
Following the success of the inaugural edition in April this year, the second edition is expected to attract over 5,000 participants from India and abroad.
The sporting event will be jointly organized by the Mizoram Government and Innovations India, under the aegis of the Athletics Federation of India. The event will feature a 21.1 km Half Marathon, a 10 km Competitive Run, and a 5 km Fun Run.
Organizers highlighted that new railway connectivity to Aizawl is likely to boost participation, particularly from the Northeast, West Bengal, and Assam.
Captain Rahul Bali, curator of AIHM, said the marathon aims to place Mizoram on the global map through sport and cultural diplomacy.
“With AIHM, we are scripting a story of fitness, friendship, and forward-looking regional pride. Mizoram is ready to shine on the global stage,” he said.
