AIZAWL: Christmas celebrations across Mizoram remained peaceful, with no significant law and order problems reported during the festivities, according to a senior police official on Sunday.
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte stated that while there were a few minor incidents, such as burglaries and the illegal sale of firecrackers, the overall crime rate during this year’s holiday season was lower compared to previous years.
Khiangte praised the public for their compliance with laws and government regulations.
“The festive period has been largely peaceful, thanks to the efforts of the community in following legal guidelines,” he said.
The police official added that extensive security measures are being implemented to ensure that the upcoming New Year celebrations proceed smoothly.
Between December 24 and December 29, a total of 28 criminal cases were reported in the Aizawl region, with 22 of these cases being related to burglaries.
Two individuals were arrested for selling banned firecrackers during the period.
Additionally, 47 people were detained for violating traffic rules, and three unnatural deaths were reported during the Christmas festivities, Khiangte noted.
