Aizawl: The Mizoram State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday announced that elections of 88 village councils in Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Lawngtlai district have been scheduled for March 12.
State election commissioner H. Lalthlangliana said that the elections will be held on March 12 and the counting of votes will take place as soon as polling is over.
“Votes polled on March 12 will be counted on the same day, and the results will be declared on the counting centres as soon as counting is over,” he said.
He said the election model code of conduct, which is in force from Friday, will continue till March 18.
Lalthlangliana said the last date for filing nomination papers is February 19 and nominations will be scrutinized on February 21. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is on February 24.
A total of 37,883 voters, including 18,721 women, are eligible to cast their votes.
There are 516 VC seats, of which 428 are general seats and 88 are reserved seats for women.
Kamalanagar VC has the largest number of voters at 1,678 from 725 households, including 838 women electorate, while Gobasuri village is the smallest village having only 60 households and 114 voters, including 56 female voters.

Meanwhile, in recently concluded elections for village councils in nine districts and local councils (LCs) within two urban bodies, the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured a majority in 267 out of 544 VCs and 54 out of 110 LCs.
The Mizo National Front (MNF) won in 122 VCs and 27 LCs, while Congress claimed 43 VCs and 14 LCs.
