Aizawl: Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga on Monday launched the Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) programme under the ‘Bana Kaih’ or handholding scheme.
The initiative aims to establish sports coaching and talent development programs across the northeastern state to promote sports and nurture promising young athletes.
Under the initiative, children aged 8 to 15 will receive 15 days of basic coaching, with the long-term goal of preparing them for major competitions, including the 2036 Olympics, officials said.
A total of 24 sports disciplines have been selected under the programme.
Describing the EMS programme as a milestone for Mizoram’s sports sector, Sapdanga said the initiative would help identify and showcase talented Mizo athletes at the international level.
