Aizawl: Mizoram reported 719 dengue cases with one fatality between January and November 3 this year.
This was informed by the state Health and Family Welfare Department.
State Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (SVBDCP) officials expressed concern over the presence of the vector-borne disease during the winter, noting that 38 individuals tested positive for Dengue from 173 samples during in the last week of November.
Of 8,562 suspected cases tested in the past 11 months, 719 were confirmed positive.
Aizawl district recorded the highest cases at 503, with Lunglei district in south Mizoram reporting 176 cases, and Myanmar border Champhai district registering 14 cases.
Mizoram identified its first dengue cases in 2012 with 6 infections. As of October 2024, the cumulative total has risen to 5,596 cases.
Annual infections showed an upward trend but decreased significantly during 2020 and 2021 amid Covid-19 lockdowns.
However, the following year, the number of cases rose to 1,868, resulting in five deaths. The previous year saw two fatalities, while this year has recorded one death thus far.

2023 marked the highest infection rate with 2,060 positive cases identified from 12,949 tested samples.
