Aizawl: Mizoram’s Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena on Saturday said the Railways will operate two special trains between Guwahati and Aizawl to cater to the surge in passenger demand during the Christmas festivities.
Vanlalvena said he had requested Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce special services on the Guwahati–Aizawl (Sairang station) route in view of the increased number of commuters during the festive season. The Union minister accepted the request and approved the operation of two special trains, he said.
According to the MP, the 14-coach special trains will run from Guwahati to Aizawl on December 22 and 24, and return from Aizawl to Guwahati on December 23 and 25, respectively.
He said the additional services would benefit passengers travelling home for Christmas and the New Year. Vanlalvena added that residents of Mizoram and Manipur living in Delhi and other metropolitan cities, who were unable to secure tickets on direct trains to Aizawl, can now book tickets up to Guwahati and continue their journey to Mizoram on the special trains.
