AIZAWL: Mizoram Police has acknowledged the commendable efforts of an airline staffer for aiding in the seizure of significant amount of contraband worth Rs 25 crore and arms.
HT Vanlalruati, serving as executive security at Indigo Airlines at Lengpui airport since 2020, helped the authorities to seize crystal meth from Myanmar nationals and live .22 ammunition from a passenger from Churachandpur, Manipur.
Vanlalruati was honoured with a letter of appreciation and a cash reward of Rs. 5000. The award was presented by Mizoram DGP Anil Shukla, IPS, on Thursday morning in the presence of other senior police officers of Mizoram Police.
Earlier on October 3, Vanlalruati exhibited exceptional alertness as she uncovered 10 packets of suspected Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) weighing 10.200 kg during the screening of check-in baggage at the Indigo screening point at Lengpui Airport.
The illicit substance, valued at over Rs. 25,495,000, was detected in the belongings of passengers Lalremthangi (38) and Tinchuaii from Letpanchhawng, Myanmar, who were en route to New Delhi.
Consequently, a case was promptly registered under NDPS and other sections.
Again, on October 9, Vanlalruati detected one live .22 ammunition in the check-in baggage of a passenger, one William (35) of Churachandpur, Manipur, traveling on an Indigo flight to Guwahati.
Notably, the accused did not possess a valid license to carry the ammunition. He and the detected article were handed over to Sairang Police and case was registered under the Arms Act.
