Aizawl: Aizawl district police have issued 4,064 Inner Line Permits (ILPs) to visitors since the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13.
According to Aizawl Additional Superintendent of Police Lalringliana Pachuau, a total of 4,064 ILPs were issued from four counters at Sairang railway station near Aizawl.
The information was shared at a meeting chaired by state Home Minister K Sapdanga to review the impact of the new train service in Mizoram.
Officials stated that while eight personnel were initially deployed to staff the ILP counter at the station, an additional six officers have been deployed to handle the four ILP counters.
In Kolasib district, Superintendent of police David Lalthangliana said 14 policemen — eight at the Bairabi station and two each at three other railway stations — have been deployed to verify ILPs. A total of 38 ILPs have been issued across the four stations in the district.
Lalthangliana stated that there has been a 30–40 per cent decline in the number of ILPs issued at the Vairengte check-gate in Kolasib district, as well as a similar drop in the number of maxicabs operating between Mizoram and neighbouring states.
The meeting also discussed the improvement of verification system and proposal to establish a (GRP) unit.
The Inner Line Permit is a mandatory travel document under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873, allowing Indian citizens to enter protected areas such as Mizoram. Non-residents must obtain the permit before entry.
